• Empowering early learning through high-quality infrastructure

Backyard Kids Early Learning Centre is a modern, purpose-built facility located in the heart of Ōtaki’s developing commercial precinct. Adjacent to an 8-lot commercial subdivision, this centre was designed to consolidate childcare operations into a safe, future-proofed environment while navigating the complex regulatory framework of early childhood education.

  • Coordinating complexity with confident project delivery

    Our scope included:

    • Full contract and project management under NZS3910:2013
    • Facilitation of tender and contractor procurement
    • Oversight of building consent and Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) processes
    • Real-time risk, cost, and stakeholder management
    • Progress reporting and documentation via Procore

This project required balancing the demands of a live subdivision, evolving MOE certification processes, and active contractor works demanding discipline, adaptability, and collaboration across all parties.

  • Proactive management and solutions in a live environment

Operating within a cost-plus contract structure and surrounded by other active construction sites, Land Matters took a proactive approach:

    • Monthly stakeholder meetings
    • Transparent documentation and variation management
    • Early risk register development
    • Real-time updates through Procore
    • Direct engagement with MOE and MOH to meet all operational certification criteria

This enabled value engineering without sacrificing quality and ensured a smooth path to certification.

  • Delivering value for clients and community

By managing the project from inception through to certification, Land Matters provided a steady hand across an evolving delivery environment.

    Key outcomes:

    • Delivered on time and within budget
    • Full regulatory certification achieved (CCC, MOE, MOH approvals)
    • Stakeholder trust maintained via transparent processes

This successful delivery ensured Backyard Kids could open its doors to the community without delay, providing a high-quality early learning environment for tamariki in the growing Ōtaki region.

“The process of certifying an Early Childcare Centre provided invaluable insights into managing complex regulatory and stakeholder environments effectively. Land Matters’ proactive approach significantly contributed to our project’s timely and budget-conscious delivery.”
